Age And Melatonin

Age and melatonin are two of the top causes of insomnia in adults. These two go hand in hand because age affects the presence of melatonin in our system. Melatonin is a chemical that our body produces to help us sleep. These two become the top causes of insomnia in adults when age gets higher in a person and the production of melatonin is reduced. The result is that older people have more difficulty getting to sleep and staying asleep.

Hormones

Other causes of insomnia in adults include hormones. The effect of changing hormones in women can cause some lack of sleep or interfere with a woman trying to sleep. Hormones control a great part of our body systems and functions, during the menstrual period of a woman, hormones generally become unbalanced due to changes in the body. Stress is most likely number one in the list of causes of insomnia in adults. Most insomniacs are exposed to stress in almost all aspects of their lives at some point in their day. Both work and personal lives can be stressful and cause insomnia in adults. Stress manifests itself as anxiety, depression and worries which in turn can plague a person to the extent of losing sleep over it. Sources of stress include child care and life changes like moving or starting a new job.

Pain Or Discomfort

Pain and discomfort can be factors that can be the causes of insomnia in adults and even children. Injuries or an underlying condition such as sleep apnea can ultimately affect the amount of sleep one gets and the quality of sleep as well.
